Setting up the audio source (Version 7)

Before we can record we need to tell Power Tracks what input to use from our source. The screen on the right is the VU meter screen which also plays a part which I'll explain in the next screen shot. The screen on the left is the Recording Control Panel and this is what we need to set. As I said, I use the "Line Input" to record with but you could also use the "Mic" input if you wanted to mic your amp. Lets stick with the "Line Input" for discussion purpose. To get to these screens if you look at the menu bar you can see what looks like a picture of a graph. It's located between the "Window" and the "Help" and is on the second row of icons. Click on this icon and the VU meter screen will pop up. In between the "Input" and the "Output" of the VU meter is an icon that looks like a speaker. Click on that icon and the Recording Control panel will pop up. Now just check the box for the "Line" input as you see here. This is telling Power Tracks that it will be using the "Line Input" from your soundcard as the recording source. I have to tell you now that YOUR RECORDING CONTROL PANEL MAY LOOK DIFFERENT. As I said before, you may have more or less controls but if you are recording into the "Line Input" of your soundcard, there will be a check box for that. Don't close any of the panels just yet. Lets leave this screen and go to the next one.

Setting up the audio source (Version 10)

Again this is the same as version 7. The icon with the bars that you want is located just under and to the left of the circle with the "A" in it that you clicked on to set up your audio section. For those of you using the Audigy Platinum 2ZS soundcard I am using the front control panel for my line input and if I where using the rear panel input jack then instead of the "Line 2" input being checked I would have checked the "Analog Mix" input.
